Jesus Christ Superstar (London Palladium)

The award-winning Regent's Park Open Air Theatre production of Jesus Christ Superstar comes to the iconic London Palladium next summer, starring Sam Ryder as Jesus.

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar follows the events of the last days of the life of Jesus Christ, as seen through the eyes of Judas. Reflecting the rock roots that defined a generation, the legendary score includes 'I Don't Know How to Love Him', 'Gethsemane' and the iconic title number 'Superstar'.

Tim Sheader directs the iconic global phenomenon, with choreography by Olivier Award-winner Drew McOnie and design by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Tom Scutt.

Don't miss your chance to see this “gorgeous, thrilling, heavenly musical.” – The Guardian

Subtle and artistic is not what this show is about
Lots of belting it out and at times screeching . The choreography looked like a scene from a marshal arts class. Aggressive with lots of air punching , whilst scoring points for most calories burnt. Energy , pace and volume are not a replacement for art and emotion . Some great vocals but lacking in emotion . At no point was I swept up in the story. That high you want to leave the theatre with didn’t happen . I noticed a few people didn’t return after the interval

Timeless Classic
Waited 50 years for the opportunity to see this production ... finally got to see the music in action

A fabulous, modern version of JSC musical
We thorough enjoyed this showing of JSC. I’m not usually a fan of ultra-modern versions but this really works as it’s so dramatic. Sam Ryder is an inspired choice playing Jesus as dramatically as you would expect but I have to commend the rest of the key characters; Mary Magdalene, Judas, Pontius Pilate all fantastic voices-I cried when she sang ‘I don’t know how to love him’. Shout out to the guys who played Caiaphas, Annas, Simon & Peter as well; wasn’t familiar with any of them beforehand but amazing voices also.

My favourite musical….. ever.
I love this show. I originally went to see at Regents Park. A dramatic venue. The relationships so poignant. Atmosphere is Magica, Emotionally charged. Such fabulous sound tracks. Powerful voices. It ticks all the boxes In reality. I have seen the show about 12 times. Regent’s Park. Barbican. Liverpool and now The Palladium. I simply never tire of it. I love seeing the musicians performing. Part of the stage.

Excellent production
Expectations were not high as I have seen several versions of this musical over the years. That said, the show did not disappoint in any way. Another review remarked that the music was too loud and drowned out the singers. I did not find that to be the case at all. Music and vocals were properly balanced. Judas was excellent!

An amazing experience
This was an amazing experience, everything about the show was a treat. The leading actors had incredible voices and were supported by a talented ensemble of singers, dancers and musicians. Our tickets were extremely expensive so this show had to live up to our high exoectations.

Absolutely brilliant!
Sometimes, simple is best. There was no need for elaborate stage, big costumes, etc. the music and singing was the focus and it was BRILLIANT!

Spectacular show! All aspects were fantastic. I wish I could see it one more time before I go back to USA. Jesus Christ Superstar was the only reason I came to London. I was not disappointed!!!
Acting, vocals were excellent. Costumes were appropriate for the time of Christ with modern updates as needed. The symbolism was fantastic. I can’t say enough about the orchestra or music director. I am a musician myself and they outperformed the score, which is difficult. Bravo!!!

Simply the best
What a fantastic experience this show was, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. It had it all, from great voices, acting, music, energy, creative choreography and an outstanding performance by Sam Ryder. I won’t hesitate to recommend to my friends and family, as a ‘must see’.

Jesus Christ Superstar
We were left feeling disappointed. This was our first visit to the Palladium, our seats were great and we will be back. However, this is not a colourful production, sound was difficult at times to make out and sometimes seemed distorted. The cast were very good, in particular we really enjoyed Mary Magdalana’s singing voice and the part played by the 5 Herod baddies, I also really enjoyed Richard Armitage’s role of Herod. Unfortunately We would not recommend the show.

Absolutely phenomenal production
The staging of the show was fascinating and excellent. Musicians were superb. Dancers were awesome. Fantastic vocals throughout although I struggled to make out what Judas was singing about despite having a phenomenal voice. As for Sam his Gethsemane was unforgettable. A truly memorable afternoon - and they had to do it all over again for the evening performance. Sam Ryder was inspirational casting.

Rock Opera @ it's very best!
The show was absolutely fantastic. The music, the singing, the acting. A very strong story telling how the last days of Jesus's life ended & his demise. Sam Ryder & the cast gave their heart & soul. Magnificent performances!

A Fabulous Production with Phenomenal Performances
This was a fabulous show with phenomenal performances from the entire cast. Sam Ryder's voice was exceptional, going above and beyond my expectations, but every performer delivered an outstanding performance that made the production a joy to watch. I gave the music 4 stars because, at times, the accompaniment felt a little rushed. I would have loved more space for Mary to fully savour her two slower solo songs, allowing the emotion and power of her voice to shine through even more. I also gave the costumes 4 stars. While they were excellent overall, I felt the lepers' scene could have been expressed more effectively through the costumes to enhance the visual storytelling. These are only minor observations, however. Overall, this was a truly fantastic production and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I would highly recommend it.

Excellent
We could not hear any of the words sung by Judas. It was very disappointing
Kathryn, 01 Aug 2026
Lovely to see it back.
The show itself was brilliant and great to see it again. Sometimes the lights scanned the audience which made the audience shut their eyes as it was too bright shining right in your eyes. Big shame some members of the audience felt they had to scream and whistle their approval which really tended to spoil the experience for those close by. The main characters were brilliant supported by a very good ensemble. Worth going.

Clare, 25 Jul 2026
Totally Amazing! A must see!
This will blow you away! Every single person on that stage gives their all and touches your soul, a special mention to Judas - and, of course Sam Ryder who was born to play this role of Jesus - his voice is out of this world. I cried buckets and am still buzzing even after being home for 5 hours!! I would highly recommend this show, and I cannot wait to go again.
Ginny, 23 Jul 2026

One of the best I've seen - sensational
Great adaptation of an old favourite. Voices better than any previous shows. Great set, original lighting and stunning choreography. Same ending though - no twist
Clive, 28 Jun 2026
Wonderful show. Spectacular singing!
The set was minimalist but very effective. The singing, particularly Desmond’s Cathabel and Sam Ryder were particularly brilliant! Not Much leg room in the Grand circle… but not much anyone can do about that!
