Cats

The British press gave the latest production of Cats a resounding welcome, with a clutch of rave reviews. Public demand has resulted in 100,000 more tickets being released. It doesn't look like this musical is going anywhere any time soon, yet another theatreland classic by the amazing Andrew Lloyd Webber. No wonder when it's such fun, such a thrill, so wonderfully eccentric and weird.

Based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot and produced by the highly respected Cameron Mackintosh, this is the amazing tale of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make the Jellicle choice, deciding which moggy will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. Cats first hit the West End back in 1981 and won numerous awards, including Best Musical at the Oliviers and Best Musical at the Tony Awards, too. Wow.

The original London production ran for twenty-one years and the Broadway version for 18, both record breakers. And as of this year it is the third longest-running show in Broadway history and the fourth longest-running West End musical. It has been performed around the world, in 20 different languages, and has even been made into a movie. You'll quite simply adore it.

Captivating production
Highly recommended. The interplay of music, singing, choreography, costumes, colours, lighting, stage set just takes you to another world of imagination

Lived up to billing and different from my expectations.
I had read some of the T S Eliot poems a couple of months before and wish I had done again so immediately before. I have read them since the show and they all make so much more sense! I enjoyed Act II more than Act I during which I was (too) intently trying to capture the theme and detailed stories. My favourite was Gus! - the actor was excellent and his double part worked really well. Were I directing, I would have left some minor details of Act I out such as the 'swing' and the 'thrown' Boot as amateurish, distracting and unnecessary to the story/action. Overall, good entertainment and the cast worked their socks off!

The lights went out, but still dazzling
A power failure 20 minutes into the show put the stage in darkness, but after a short intermission it soon got back to the spectacle Cats is. A great family show, albeit super-surreal in parts, the Lloyd-Webber music is refreshed and gained its former magic. A great night out - especially if you like the feline species.

CATS most enjoyable
Excellent standard of dancing and singing. Set very good. We were near the front LHS, and the music through loudspeakers very loud sometimes. Also strong lights pointing right in our eyes a couple of times.

Amazing!
The whole show from start to finish was amazing. The casts interaction with the audience made it very special indeed. My 9 yr old daughter and 72 yr old mum enjoyed every bit of it. 10/10!

Nicole is a pussycat doll who has evolved
I've looked forward to this show returning to the west end and was not disappointed. The dancing was brilliant the singing was good but occasionally I lost the words. Brilliant Mr Mestopheles and Nicole moved me to tears with a very emotionally charged performance.
