Hair the Musical in Concert
Roll back time to the late 1960s and hippy counterculture was an underground movement, one that was being fiercely resisted by the Establishment, that was hated by conservative thinkers, and caused dismay amongst many audience members thanks to its scenes of nudity, anti-war sentiment, drug taking, homosexuality and bisexuality. Hair still contains loads of strong language, sexual references, imitation gunshots, drug references and potentially distressing subjects like war and death. To some, it still feels scandalous. But it changed the world of theatre forever back in 1968. Thanks to Hair, British theatre is free to explore controversy. Without Hair, it might never have been set free.
The latest version of this ever-popular musical comes in concert form and takes place at the London Palladium. It stars a host of brilliant performers who have wowed us in various guises across a multitude of exceptional modern West End smash hits. It's packed with splendid songs you'll recognise, and it celebrates sixties counterculture in all its barefooted, long-haired, bell-bottomed and beaded glory. Oddly, it manages to remain uncannily current thanks to the bizarre world we're living in. If you fancy a dose of classic rebellion, you're going to love it.
