Evita
Welcome home to Evita, the Lloyd-Webber and Rice musical whose iconic lyrics and lovely tunes will be thrilling audiences in the capital all over again, this time in collaboration with Jamie Lloyd, who in 2019 directed an award-winning outdoor production of the musical staged at the Regent Park Open Air Theatre. We're expecting a fresh new version of the classic musical that reveals the life and times of Eva Perón, who rose from obscurity to become the most powerful woman in Latin America in her role as the second wife of Argentinian president Juan Perón.
Evita's ambition, charisma and tragic early death turned her into a legend, a beloved cultural icon whose legacy remains to this day. Jamie Lloyd’s visionary direction is set to breathe exciting new life into a story that never grows old. Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, the Oscar-winning You Must Love Me and Oh What A Circus, are just a few of the show tunes you'll probably recognise. The musical actually began life as a rock opera concept album in 1976, scored a huge critical hit when it was first staged in 1978, was made into a five-Academy-Award-winning movie starring Madonna in 1996, and is still regarded as one of Webber and Rice's best collaborations.

Powerful Rachel Zegler outstanding
Great music / orchestra
Excellent dancers / singers but too many dance sequences which made understanding/ following the story thread difficult.
Balcony sequence- outstanding!

Excellent Show I am an avid musicals attendee and I loved Evita. The way that Eva Peron sings the title song to her audience was beautifully done. The story was good but a little obscure at times. The music was excellent but could have included some more memorable songs. All in all this is an excellent show.

Innovative and moving Loved the balcony scene as it was filmed to the audience inside the theatre and performed to the crowd outside the theatre.

Fabulous show The new Evita is a fabulous show. Its leading lady is a pocket rocket with a wonderful voice. Having seen the original with Elaine Page, David Essex and Joss Auckland, this latest production more than lives up to its predecessor’s reputation. Brilliant touch with Evita singing to the gathered crowd outside the Theatre. In summary, a fabulous show that should appeal to anyone.

Vibrant Poor lead singer .. not quite up to the high notes, I’m afraid. Needs a lower, stronger voice.
Did not like the first half at all .. although very loud and bright it was dark and disturbing. Prefer the original version. Second half much better.

Evita is awesome!! Rachel is sooo talented!! Loved, loved this show!! So wonderful to see Rachel doing so well. I liked the fresh direction in this depiction of the musical. Absolutely unreal to hear the amazing singing from this cast. Don’t miss this - book a spot today!!

Absolutely incredible Amazing show. Entire cast were incredible, very watchable
Music was awesome, loud too.
Not totally convinced about the but where Evita goes outside the theatre to sing to the masses (that didn't pay) whilst us that forked out 200 quid a ticket just get to see her on a screen. I can see why it's been done, but I fear it may be the director being too clever for his own good
That small critique aside it was amazing and well recommend

Powerful Very good show although would recommend you know the story before going! Some of the lyrics were not clear and difficult to follow.

Excellent evening, superb entertainment. Best show I have seen for years and I am a big Les Mis fan!! So exciting, so much energy. Three leading artists were each stars in their own right.
The balcony scene (inside and out) was unbelievable, beautifully done and emotional.
Thank you for the entertainment.

Great performance of 'Che'! A most enjoyable evening at the theatre - particularly found the singing and performance of 'Che' - Diego Rodrigo Diez - truly amazing! However, disappointed to see that there was no infomation at all about him in the programme (except for his name).
Did not like the part of the play where it was just showing film of singing in the background - should have been live instead.

Amazing singing! I thought the show would have been a lot more colourful as the whole cast only wore grey and black with a few of them wearing gold in a couple of scenes. There was no colourful scenery, (a bit drab) but the singing was fantastic. I expected Evita to be dressed more elegantly and grandly colourful ( disappointment!) for me. The story line is not that easy to follow even if you know the whole history of Evita as there was very little acting involved and not very accurate.

Spectacular production Would advise anyone to just re-visit the story of Eva Peron as this production, whilst spectacular, does not have any dialogue. The staging, production, music, cast however are amazing & the whole show is totally breathtaking.

Good dancing. Lacked colour. Minimal set I enjoyed the show, and at some points when the whole company was singing, the hairs on my arms stood up! Great dance moves! VERY LOUD! If you like a lavish set, then you will be disappointed though. Costumes minimalist and dull. Disappointed that there was no marching by the military as was in the original staging of the show. A note about the theatre: at least in the stalls area there was a good provision of ladies toilets, so we didn't end up queueing for the whole interval. We were told that no tea or coffee available in the theatre bar. Had to bring one from outside.

Sterling performance by the leading lass! Evita (Rachel Ziegler) was non-stop throughout - incredible vocals, incredible dancing and marvellous acting. The whole cast were great. I do wish there was more dialogue - but I would go see it again!

Exceptional Evita is musical theatre at its finest. Every change from the original production enhances the show. I don’t know how I am going to follow this !
